Hello Parents,
It was great to meet with so many of you during our first parent/teacher conference day. I look forward to meeting with everyone over the next conference days. Please let me know if you need to reschedule you conferences, a reminder note was sent home last week.

Today we enjoyed a beautiful "Peace Assembly." It was so moving to see the entire school standing outside on such a perfect autumn day, creating a peace sign and singing together. Our class decided to bring peace to the world by always using the "Golden Rule."

      the assembly!

In reading we will begin to work on characters and the way in which they change throughout the story. We will use the book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane as our read aloud, and children will work in small groups reading level appropriate books. Please be sure your child is reading at least 20-30 minutes each night.

In science we have begun our plant unit and will plant our seeds tomorrow. The children are so excited about this unit!  We will observe and record the plant's growth and are looking forward to learning more about seeds and plants.

In writing the class continues to develop as a community of writers. I am so impressed by their increased stamina and the ability to work with partners in order to enhance their stories. The children have "story-told" their story to several partners and are creating a draft of the story. We are working on writing like story tellers, not news reporters! We will also work on using strong verbs in our writing.

Thank you so much for all of your support.
