Dear Parents,                                                                                    Nov. 11, 2013

I hope everyone enjoyed our long weekend. The children enjoyed our school wide Veteran's Day assembly on Friday. The children were very proud to make beautiful cards which will be mailed to the troops at the end of November.

In reading we are beginning our work on characters and the ways characters change throughout a story. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane will be our read aloud and we will focus on the ways in which Edward changes throughout the story. The children will document examples of the changes in their Reading Notebooks and will also study characters in their independent reading.
In writing we are continuing our work with personal narratives and most children are ready to begin their first draft.

In math the children completed the unit 3 test and we have begun our study of multiplication.  We will focus on the concepts of multiplication and use manipulatives for our work.

In science our plants are doing well and the children will observe and write about their plants throughout the week. We will also have an opportunity to use Star lab again this week. Just a reminder to please join us on November 14 for American Education Week. I sent home a letter detailing the events of Thursday. You are also welcome to join us for lunch on November 14 and/or 22, our lunch is from 12:25-12:50. On Thursday, November 14 Jane McGlynn (former third grade teacher and Star lab expert) will take half of the class and  parents into the Star lab, while the other half completes activities in the classroom. We will then switch places to be sure everyone has an opportunity to be a part of Star lab.
We hope everyone can join us, but understand if you are unable to attend.

Thank you for your continued support,
Sue Fitzpatrick
